Pretty much a normal day with nothing much to report. We started and finished the field that we had to leave. It was PLENTY dry today! Test weights averaged 62/63 lbs, the protein was really low…7-8% and the average was 40/45 bushels per acre. The field was ROUGH with a lot of terraces. It took us the whole day to cut 135 acres. I like the variation the terraces bring to your day but if it’s time you’re trying to make, the flat fields are by far the best! We’ve got approximately 2 ½ days left of the acres we came to Shattuck for. Then what?? Will we move on or find something more to do around here?
It was nice having Taylor here this morning to help us get equipment moved around. It’s no longer just me and Jim driving back and forth from one field to the other. Now that we’ve got Taylor around, we’ll be able to move two vehicles at a time. Plus, Taylor loves being involved with helping us move. I think each one of the girls have enjoyed helping with that chore. Number one reason…it makes them feel like they’re part of the whole scheme of things. Even though, what they do with the household chores and the food is important and probably the hardest job of them all! I appreciate anything they can do because that means I don’t have to do it.

The next picture is the new structure the elevator is building for sand storage. It makes me wonder just how long this oil industry will be around this area. Surely they wouldn’t go to all the expense of building something new if they didn’t think they’d be around here for a little while. I wonder if this means the newer silos that are holding sand now will be used for wheat/grain again next year?
The storm clouds built up again tonight. The weatherman was correct! Fortunately, we’ve been lucky enough they haven’t affected us much – yet. More could be coming during the night. If it does, I hope it’s not in the form of ice!!
Your Taylor is cute. I could see our 5 year old grand daughter doing that or at least try. She is pretty good at swinging ,climbing and going around any bar strong enough to hold her. Tell Taylor I like her boots. if any guy tries any nonsense use those boots on his backside.
Still raining here at 1:30 am may 31. I wouldask what you were doing up after midnight writing,but I see your dedication to the rest of the country to let us know how things are going.I am up because i have not gotten off this chair.ha.Reading news and checking newspapers of the state.
A farmer was run over by a combine tire and worst his son was driving Yesterday I believe. PLEASE be careful.sharon
I enjoy writing and sharing our story that’s why I was still up. I also ha to wait for the computer. Taylor was posting her note to the All Aboard Wheat Harvest site. It’s my time. We sure try to be careful. Was the farmer killed? Was he fe your area? We’re moving to another field this a.m.

Yep that’s a wheat field.
As I read the article in the wichita eagle newspaper he was killed ,have not found anything else about it. It was at yates center which is east and north of us. You can get the wichita eagle newspaper just type that in. Looks like we had about an inch last night. more wind then rain. My brother lives east of us about 20 miles and he had little over inch. he has some brome needs cutting. wanted to do that this week,but maybe not. Sharon
