All In a Day’s Work

The wheat is yielding VERY well. Jim said he was seeing 70 – 100 bushels per acre pretty consistently all day. For brief seconds at a time, he was even seeing 180 on his monitor.

Oh Well…That’s The Way it Goes!

I was right – it has been a LONG day!

We were able to get packed up and on the road heading west in fairly decent time (for us). I believe we were pulling through the metropolis of Jordan at 9:30 a.m. (Mountain Time). We arrived in Lewistown right at noon.

Notable Characters of J Town

The 2000 census states the town of Jordan (settled in 1896) has a population of 364. Not a huge town and definitely not one you’d think could hold so many characters in its history. I am not an expert in any of what I’m about to share with you. Throughout the years, however, I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the stories and being involved in some way with each one.

Grain Bins and Cemeteries

Historical sign found outside of the town of Jordan.

First things, first. Did you figure out what all those little rocks were in my previous post?

Moving Through the Montana Prairie

It showered in J Town early Monday night.

Jim and I headed to the field to get the combine moved back to Charlie’s. We didn’t realize the threatening cloud bank was there until we began heading east out of town. Jim kept looking back over his shoulder until it finally got the best of him. “It’s against my better judgment to go any farther”, he said. We turned around and headed back to town. There was NO WAY either one of us wanted to be on those “cow paths” should it begin to rain…especially since our service truck is the only two wheel drive pickup left in this part of the world.

A Colorado Miracle

With all the evil that is involved in this story, it’s so good to see God IS in control!

Jordan, MT (again)

As I was driving to the grocery store this afternoon, I thought I should fill you in on the town of Jordan. It hasn’t changed much since we arrived here for the first time in 1981. And, then I remembered that I had taken pictures of Jordan last year and had blogged about the town. So, I’m copying the one I wrote a year ago for you to be able to see the sights of Jordan. I can say, with confidence, not a lot has changed over the year…except that I’m a year older and so is everyone else. 🙂

There’s a storm brewing in the southwest section of Garfield County. Garfield County is a rather large county in Montana – 100 miles by 100 miles. So, it may take a while before it threatens Jordan…IF it threatens Jordan. It has been exceptionally hot and HUMID here. Feels like good storm brewing weather but lacking wind. The rain will be welcomed but sure hope there’s no hail in that cloud!

Going Round & Round Once Again

“The day” finally arrived – the day Jim and Charlie decided they’d test the wheat’s moisture. That was yesterday.

Welcome Back Home – to Jordan!

We made it to Jordan! The heat is on!!! It was 104 on Tuesday and 102 yesterday. The forecast is more of the same for the next several days.

I figured with the heat, we’d get right back in the field but that’s not what happened. Jim’s anticipating today will be the day.  After so much time of being away from the wheat field, trucks and combine, it will be hard to get back into the swing of things. The routine was broken before July 4th.

The trip from Lusk to Jordan was uneventful. It was horribly warm but we were fortunate not to have any truck engine or tire issues. Taylor thought the dually was running a little on the hot side and volunteered to drive without the air conditioning. I’m not sure, but I think she may have broke down and turned it on just outside of Belle Fourche, SD.
