Yeah, the wind is blowing HARD today. But it’s just what we needed to get back in the field. We tried it late yesterday afternoon and was up against this the whole time –
The field we were in is FULL of terraces. And the channels must have filled with the 3″ of rain we had. It wasn’t working real well and the Yellow Beast was struggling. It struggled enough to fill Frank one time and then we quit. Mostly had to quit because the elevator still hasn’t started their harvest hours. It was closed so we had to wait to dump this morning.
We moved to a different field today. One that is more sandy and no terraces to fight with. We’ve actually put in a decent day. The first real one since we got here.
The only issue today is the auger I’m having to use to dump in the bin with. The wheat we’re cutting is seed wheat so it needs to be stored on the farm for the farmer to use this fall. The auger looks like its been around for several years (to say the least). It overheats and keeps blowing fuses. Takes about an hour to dump Frank because the wheat just trickles from the truck to the pit.
The day began with a visit from the MacDon support truck. We weren’t having any trouble. This was for some adjustments that didn’t get done before we left home. As Jim says, “preventative maintenance”. Thanks MacDon guys for being so willing to come help us out!
Speaking of “preventative maintenance”, I bet the owner of the truck that hit this cement culvert is wishing he would have taught the driver a thing or two about cutting corners too close.
Before I sign off for the day, I HAVE to brag about Jenna just a little. That girl has done something I’ve NEVER done. She drove a CLAAS Jaguar chopper while in Iowa this week. She was partaking in the festivities of the Hay Expo in Waukon for CLAAS. So PROUD of her!!
