It’s beginning to get a little tense around these parts

Oh my goodness! Patience and tempers in this camp are beginning to take a turn for the worse! We have been inside this trailer house entirely TOO LONG! The last time we set foot in a wheat field was June 2 – that’s 12 days ago.

Yesterday, the girls and I did escape for most of the day. We headed to Garden City to tour the FREE zoo and then did a little shopping – fun and grocery. We went to the zoo with friends (who are also harvesters… young harvesters). I mention young harvesters because that is an issue in our industry that really needs to be addressed.  It happened that Allie (harvester’s wife) could escape with the boys for a little while so they met us there. The Garden City Zoo is by far my favorite zoo! Even better than the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, as far as I’m concerned. I could go there every day and not get sick of being there. It’s beautiful! This is its 85th year of existence and has always been free admission.

This little tyke’s name is Brooks.

This is Brooks’ big brother, Brody. It appears that I didn’t get any pictures of Brody at the zoo .

It got pretty hot really fast after we got there (which was after 2:00). So after we left the zoo, we decided the next stop should be Target hoping the cool air would regenerate our lack of energy. Getting to a store like Target once in awhile is a treat – a REAL treat! Walmart was next for miscellaneous items and groceries.  Callie talked me into buying a fishing pole so I could fish with her. The Deerfield RV Park has a fairly large pond (actually a sand pit). We’ve never been able to catch anything bigger than 4-6 inch fish for the past four years. Now, logic tells me that those fish should be growing and we will eventually catch something larger. It hasn’t happened yet. The only change I’ve seen is less water in the pond. I bet this water hole has lost at least 10 ft. of its contents since we started coming here.

Me and Cal attempting to catch fish.

The best thing about the fishing is spending time with Callie and having some of the talks we have. She has so much fun taunting those 4 inch fish with her worm and catching them – who needs anything more? Each time we’ve gone down there, the Killdeer have not been happy with us invading their territory. They are a fun bird to watch and listen to. They get so frantic and nervous.  Another thing I have found out about Callie is that she’s an awesome rock skipper!

This is what the grass looks like around here.

Today was another day of being in the trailer house all day (except for the ½ hour of fishing again with Cal ). I had some exciting developments with the fuel tank issue USCHI has been working on for the past 21 years and it kept me in front of the computer most of the afternoon. Sorry, T & C! But…thanks for being so understanding!

Storm clouds rolled in towards early evening but produced no rain – just a lot of wind. The wind blew most of the day. Callie even commented that we needed a flashing sign stating, “Caution: Turbulence. Please buckle your seat belts”. Taylor made an excellent supper – lasagna rollups and garlic bread. Thanks, Taylor, it was wonderful (and I didn’t have to cook)!

I wonder what adventures are in store for us tomorrow.

Lovely photos, very warm and charming. The kids look so adorable especially Tyke who’s watching the giraffe. Is he crying or going to cry on the first photo? Seem like it. Well, have a nice day to you. God bless!

    • Thank you! The little Tyke’s name is Brooks and No, I don’t think he was crying or close to crying. I hope you have a nice day too! Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Yes, I am sure waiting is not good for anyone. I know it would be for us. Little boys are very sweet. I can do a good skip the rock, but do it about twice a year.

Just read the article about USCHI. Just another case of the folks that make the rules are far removed from the ag. needs. Sharon
