Lunch and a Cattle Sale

We’re nearly two thirds done with our 2,100 mile trip from Limon, CO to Jordan, MT – back to Limon – back to Jordan.

It was nearing lunch time today as we pulled into the town of Brush, CO. Jim really enjoys eating at salebarns whenever possible. He looks over to me and asked, “Wanna eat at the salebarn?” I’ve done this long enough with him that I’ve learned that you eat when he eats or you may not get anything at all. When he’s on a mission and it involves a combine, trucks, wheat and getting down the road-not much stops him. My answer to him was, “Yep!”

As we pulled into the lot, this is what we saw:

It was sale day. We went in hoping the owners of all these vehicles hadn’t decided to eat right now, as well. We headed in regardless.

The food was as good as expected. I enjoyed watching the people who came in. Being the outsider, you can feel the eyes on us as they wonder who in the heck we are. After a short time, though, it doesn’t matter. They carry on with their conversations about the weather or who went where with who or how much a certain bull sold for, etc. The faces of Ag…I LOVE IT!

When we finished, I briefly stepped into the sales ring to experience the auction, the smells and the sounds of selling someone’s pride and joy.
