Oh Canada! (Cont)

img_2571-e1355089099138Ever have to sit in an airport longer than you anticipated? Due to “mechanical issues”, our plane has been delayed from Saskatoon to Minneapolis. Not sure exactly what the issue is…something with tires. No – really! So, while sitting here, I decided it would be an opportune time to update my blog with the latest pictures. Friday was spent entirely in ACCHI (Association of Canadian Custom Harvesters, Inc.) meetings. One of the meetings included a familiar face and a report on the Great American Wheat Harvest. The Canadian membership had to go into their annual business meeting which meant we didn’t have anything to do but sit around and wait.

The evening involved the ACCHI banquet and auction. It was an evening filled with information, tears and good times. The time we spent with our Northern “family” gave us the perfect opportunity to build new relationships with great people! I look forward to watching for them this summer while we’re making our tour of the wheat fields.

Yesterday we said our goodbyes to those who had to make their way back home. While we were hanging out at the hotel, Lynn found us and told us she had “a sheet of ice reserved” at 3:00. Any guesses what she meant? Lynn was determined she was going to teach her Southern friends how to Curl. What an experience! What really happened was we provided great entertainment for those who were there and knew what they were doing! I’m sure they had a great time watching us Americans attempt to do something they do all the time.

We ended the day with a spectacular Christmas light display at the Saskatoon zoo:

As the day turns into night, I will let you know how this day progressed tomorrow. I’m fairly certain we will miss our connecting flight from Minneapolis to Omaha. This is something that doesn’t surprise me. It seems like any time I fly, something interesting happens.

I have always thought curling would be fun. If I remember correctly, I think there is a curling club or something in Omaha.

  2. Stacy says:

So its a year later that I’ve found this but I have to ask. Do they do curling like we do bowling?

    • I think so. There’s an art to curling. Bowling is lacking that art. It was fun and I’d like to do it again some day but maybe when there’s not such a crowd to watch how silly us Americans look. πŸ™‚
