The Annual Hunt for Perfection

img_2435If you guessed Cabela’s – you were correct!

Yesterday afternoon, we made our annual trek through the pasture looking for the perfect tree. The actual job of finding THE one is an adventure in itself! Once you find one that might work, you just automatically think maybe you’ll find one better just over the ridge.  The temperature was in the upper 50’s when we left home but the sun was going down. That’s what you get for trying to squeeze too many things in at the same time! But, as it worked out, we had plenty of time to find three trees that would fit the bill for what they were meant to be – a Christmas tree.

Who wants to guess?

Any guesses where we went after the visit to the orthopedic doctor yesterday morning?

IMG_2434We used to park next to Les & Jeff Johnson in Jordan, Montana when they were custom harvesters. Great guys! Wish we could see them again…besides on TV. It’s fun to see their “stuff” and feel like you’d like to tell those around you, “I know these guys”!

PS…we had Mexican food for lunch.

Jim, a trip to the Doc & Lunch

Jim had the first of two follow-up exams yesterday morning. As most of you know, he was involved in a wreck two weeks ago which could have disrupted our lives a whole lot more than just the two hours of not knowing how he was that night. That was scary enough to last me for quite a while. The trauma doctor we visited gave him a thumbs up for how well he had healed in the past two weeks. We go back again in a month for another check up.

Dutch Oven Pot Roast

One of our very favorite meals in the Z house is a pot roast. As far as the family goes, you can’t get any better than that (well…maybe a good steak).  So, when Mark agreed to cook the meal and I provided the beef, it was a good combination. Something interesting about the roast – it came all the way from Jordan, MT! Yep, we haul hamburger, roasts, steaks and few cube steaks all the way home from Jordan every year. Why? Well because they only have the very best locker in the entire world! We’ve got it down to a science as far as how that frozen meat makes the 2 1/2 day trip without thawing (even when the temps rise sometimes as high as 90+).

3rd Annual “FYNO” Camping Trip

Packed and ready to go!

The third annual “Freeze Your Nads Off” camping trip has come and gone – three weeks ago already. The day we packed up and headed out was also Taylor’s 18th birthday. A long time ago, I started a tradition of decorating the kitchen for each of the girls when it was their birthday. It seems I always do it the same way – simply because how differently can you decorate a room with streamers and balloons? I decided to try something a little different this year.

#3…this is for YOU!

“A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip.” ~ Unknown

Taylor turned 18 on November 2. It was the day we left on our annual fall camping trip. Life happened and I haven’t been able to do a post just for her. This is your post, Taylor…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I decided what I wanted to do for you was to gather a few pictures together for all the world to see. What I really wanted them to see was a shortened version of the kid you were and the young woman you have become. I hope I have adequately done this.

Thankful Thanksgiving Thursday: FAMILY!

GOD IS SO GOOD!

Jenna and the CLAAS Beast(s)

Jamie told me a couple of days ago she had lined up a personal tour of the CLAAS of Omaha plant with Jenna.

Jenna started working for CLAAS quite some time ago. I grew up respecting someone’s place of employment which meant don’t visit unless there’s a need and don’t call unless there’s an emergency. So, when Jamie told me she was going to visit Jenna at work, I thought…”well, heck, if she’s going maybe I’ll tag along too”. If Jamie hadn’t gone, I may have felt like I couldn’t visit until another group of custom harvesters made their way to the plant.

An Update on the Wreck

Taylor inside the truck looking for Jim’s glasses.

Everything about this accident could have and should have been so much worse than it was! It’s been a little more than three days ago that I received a call from Jim’s phone which wasn’t really Jim. Instead of hearing Jim’s voice, I heard the voice of a stranger telling me he was with Jim and they were taking him to the hospital.

This is the update that I’m sure many of you who follow my blog are waiting for.
