our raincation

photo 1 (6) - CopyIt was a brand new morning! The events of yesterday were the first thing I thought about but a little easier to accept.

It was a beautiful morning so I decided to grab my fishing pole and go down to the pond for a little while. I stood by the edge and watched two rather large trout swim in front of me. They were taunting me, as if to say they knew I wouldn’t be able to catch them.  Watching them reminded me of a recurring dream that I’ve had. In the dream, I’m always standing on the edge of a lake (more like a cliff) looking down in the water and the water is so clear. So clear, I can see the fish swimming around. Anyone out there know what the meaning of that dream could be?

If Callie were here, she’d have been sitting next to me with her pole. But she’s not here. Jim decided to walk down to see what was going on. “Catch anything?” I hadn’t. He then walked over to the rowboat. “You going to take that out on the water?”, I asked. “Yeah, maybe”, was his reply. So, I walked over and helped him empty the water that had collected from the rain on Sunday. photo 2 (6) - Copy

“Here, let me take a picture of you”, says Jim. I wasn’t counting on having my picture taken…oh well.

photo 1 (7) - CopyJim would row to the south end of the lake and the wind would push us across the pond to the north side. We did this about a half dozen times. I still hadn’t caught those trout! I was using a lure hoping not to catch a catfish. Guess what I caught – about four catfish.

photo 3 - Copy (3) It was pretty relaxing. I can honestly say that’s probably the first time in 32 years of marriage that we did something like this.  🙂 About 11:30, we decided it was time to quit the fishing expedition and make a trip to Garden City – post office, lunch buffet at the Mexican joint and then air conditioner parts for Frank. I was hoping for a trip to the Crazy House boot store. While Jim was in the truck parts store, I was sitting outside in the Dually watching the storm clouds getting closer and closer.

photo (9) - CopyWhen Jim finally came out, I told him it looked like it was probably raining at the trailer house. He couldn’t remember if he had shut the side door on the Cottage so decided we better get back to make sure. Darn! No going to the Crazy House today.

photo (10) - CopyWe got to the Cottage with just enough time to get both pickups in the shed. The cloud was dark and ugly and showed signs of hail (green cloud).

Jim was so funny. I was trying to narrate the video clip and he thought I was talking to him. The hail was so loud in the trailer, he couldn’t hear me talking.

And then the hail got a little larger:

When the winds died and the hail quit, it continued to rain for another hour. By the time it was over, we got an additional 1.5 inches of rain and the driveway had turned into a lake. These puddles made me think about the years when the girls were much smaller and the puddles were so much fun to play in.

Did you hear the frog? He was certainly happy about the rain!

Looks like we’ll be able to enjoy a few more days of our raincation. I think there might be a chance of more rain tomorrow. Again, it’s hard to be too upset with rain considering how desperate this part of the country needs it.

I may have to see if I can try my luck at catching those trout again tomorrow.

    oops, hit the wrong key!
I was so sorry to hear about your kitty, isn’t hard to lose them, they can be so much company.
Pictures were great of the storm clouds etc.,my gosh the rain! Loved hearing your voices on the video! Also enjoyed the fishing pictures, it reminded me of the fun we had catching bass that evening at my brothers resevoir! Hope you catch a trout while you are waiting for it to dry up. Mardrie.

This made me smile. I was just thinking about you while I was out there trying my luck at catching those darn trout! I still find myself thinking about that little guy and a pang of hurt rushes through my soul. I know it will get easier but sometimes I just wish we had a pause and rewind button on life!

Sure hope the storms stay away from the Jordan area so we have a reason to come up. I’m anxious to see you guys again!
