#1 Post for 2012…”We cut wheat today!” (video)

“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” Abraham Lincoln

The day I wrote this post was one that had been long awaited!  We cut wheat today  on May 16 after sitting for days of waiting for moisture levels to get low enough to cut. The perfect moisture to cut wheat is 13%.  We sort of figured out it was probably due to the early spring and already ripened wheat. The wheat was ready to cut but the dew and cooler temps in the mornings (like a typical spring in TX) were messing with our ability to get it cut. It was after 3:00 when we FINALLY got started. Reading this post and seeing the pictures makes me really excited about heading south again.

#2 Post of 2012 highlights “Small Town” Caring!

When I started looking for this post, I could have swore Marcy’s fundraiser was this past fall. Silly me…the time goes way too fast! It was held in March. I was overwhelmed by the number of views this post received – but not really. Living in small town USA and being fortunate enough to experience neighborly caring has been something I will NEVER regret. You can keep the big city life and all that goes with it! As for me…my heart’s in the country and small town living. Read “When Community Comes Together” and you’ll understand where I’m coming from.  On a side note, Marcy is doing VERY well! Surgeries have revealed the cancer is gone and she’s going to continue living life to the fullest! PRAISE GOD! It’s New Year’s Eve. Our plans are to be home (babysitting my two favorite little girls) where it’s warm and safe. 🙂 For all of you who are heading out to bring in 2013 with a bang…BE CAREFUL! We’ve already seen what a “small” wreck can do to a person’s way of thinking. Have fun and here’s to 2013! New trials, new roads to travel, new fields to enter and new memories to create!

Struggling with the “Why’s” of the CT shooting

Why? Why must there be such horrible, horrible things happen in this world? And why to innocent children? Yesterday, as I was driving to the elementary school to sub in the preschool, my thoughts drifted to the events of Friday. My day was beginning like any other day…a normal day. The kids and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary began their day on Friday as a normal day, too. It suddenly took a turn for the worse…with no warning. How was mine going to end? A normal day?   20121218-181925A sunrise…something we take for granted.

My heart aches for each family member suffering from the pain of losing someone they dearly loved. The magnitude of emotions they are trying to deal with is incomprehensible to me! Continue reading

GOD IS SO GOOD!

An Update on the Wreck

Taylor inside the truck looking for Jim’s glasses.

Everything about this accident could have and should have been so much worse than it was! It’s been a little more than three days ago that I received a call from Jim’s phone which wasn’t really Jim. Instead of hearing Jim’s voice, I heard the voice of a stranger telling me he was with Jim and they were taking him to the hospital.

This is the update that I’m sure many of you who follow my blog are waiting for.

In a Split Second

20121116-204119 I was sitting at the computer working on something…now I can’t even remember what it was. Whatever it was, it was important. The phone rang and I saw that it was Jim.

He was running later than he had been for the end of the day but that’s not unusual when he starts his “real job” during the winter months. When I answered the phone, I expected him to tell me he was held up somewhere and then explain why he was later than usual.

What I didn’t expect was an unfamiliar voice on the other end trying to explain to me who he was and why this foreign voice was using my husband’s phone. Continue reading

July 27, 1945 Thank You

Jim and I were able to visit the WWII memorial while in Washington DC last December. He always wished he could have gotten his dad there to view the memorial erected to honor him and his fellow war heroes.

I had a different idea for a post than the one you are about to read. I intended on sharing our weekend of camping. This will have to wait for a few days.

Sticks and Stones May Break My Bones…

About 9:45 last night, Taylor and Callie remembered they were supposed to create Anti-Bullying posters for their school hallways because October is Anti-Bullying Month. They were fortunate the “broom closet” held a few pieces of poster board! Living 25 miles from the big city and it being that late at night were two strikes against their last-minute options. Through all the anxious moments of trying to figure out what they were going to do and what was going to be written on the posters, I had to ask the question, “What is the Anti-Bullying movement all about?” Taylor says, “Look it up. You’ll find all kinds of stuff about it”. So I did.

” Bullying is the most common form of violence in schools(verbally and physically) – One incident of bullying every seven minutes; – It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school everyday due to the fear of attack or intimidation by other students – 2 out of 3 teens are verbally or physically harassed every year. – 58% of teens have had hurtful things said to them online and over 40% say it’s happened more than once.” (DoSomething.org)

“When You Only Got 100 Years to Live”

“15 there’s still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there’s never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live”
