#3 – Today’s post takes us to Texas

It’s fun going back and re-reading posts over the year and remembering that particular day as though it were yesterday. This is one of those days. However, for it being the third most read post of the year, I wonder if it was the headline that caught everyone’s attention. It certainly isn’t one of the better ones – no pictures and very short. Maybe I should learn from this 🙂

Today’s post, “We gambled and won – for once!”,  takes place  in Burkburnett, TX. We had just finished the last acres of wheat and then it rained. Maybe it would be good to look back at the posting prior to this one to better understand – “Something’s going on with the sun”

ENJOY!

Countdown to the #1 read post in 2012

It’s been pretty busy around the Z household for the past week. I feel bad about pushing my writing to the side – but only just a little. I’ve been spending time with Christmas preparations, kids and activities of the season. One day soon, things will get back to normal and I can dedicate more time to my blog. For now, though, I’ve decided I will share with you the top four posts of 2012. The #1 posting will be shared with you on January 1, 2013 – a brand new year with brand new memories to capture.

Today, though, we are heading to Omaha for a movie, Lincoln, and supper out with the family. Can’t wait to see this movie (and spend the evening with my family – including my brother, Matt)!

The #4 most read blog of 2012 – “Right now…I HATE harvest!”

Merry Christmas from the Z Crew!!

I’d like to wish each of you a Blessed Christmas! I hope you’re enjoying your day with family and friends. We’ll begin our day opening the presents that took so long to pick out. When that’s complete and the pile of gifts have been reduced to a pile of boxes and torn paper, I’ll make Christmas breakfast. The afternoon will be spent watching movies, playing games or just sleeping. Roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls and cookies – LOTS AND LOTS of cookies – for supper!  Thank you so much for stopping by and for being loyal Nebraska Wheatie friends!

Jamie – Our Firstborn/Our Guinea Pig/Our Leader of the Pack – turns 27

Twenty-seven years ago today, we brought home a tiny little baby – the beginnings of the Z Crew.  Jamie was just a little more than 24 hours old when we left the hospital in my little blue Subaru. It was sooo cold that evening, we couldn’t keep the car warm. I remember feeling like I was probably going to jail when I took that tiny little baby out of her car seat and held her close to me. I was hoping I would be able to keep her warmer than the car was providing.  Our little guinea pig was born at 1:01 p.m. on December 23, 1985.

The Annual Hunt for Perfection

img_2435If you guessed Cabela’s – you were correct!

Yesterday afternoon, we made our annual trek through the pasture looking for the perfect tree. The actual job of finding THE one is an adventure in itself! Once you find one that might work, you just automatically think maybe you’ll find one better just over the ridge.  The temperature was in the upper 50’s when we left home but the sun was going down. That’s what you get for trying to squeeze too many things in at the same time! But, as it worked out, we had plenty of time to find three trees that would fit the bill for what they were meant to be – a Christmas tree.

Jim, a trip to the Doc & Lunch

Jim had the first of two follow-up exams yesterday morning. As most of you know, he was involved in a wreck two weeks ago which could have disrupted our lives a whole lot more than just the two hours of not knowing how he was that night. That was scary enough to last me for quite a while. The trauma doctor we visited gave him a thumbs up for how well he had healed in the past two weeks. We go back again in a month for another check up.

3rd Annual “FYNO” Camping Trip

Packed and ready to go!

The third annual “Freeze Your Nads Off” camping trip has come and gone – three weeks ago already. The day we packed up and headed out was also Taylor’s 18th birthday. A long time ago, I started a tradition of decorating the kitchen for each of the girls when it was their birthday. It seems I always do it the same way – simply because how differently can you decorate a room with streamers and balloons? I decided to try something a little different this year.

#3…this is for YOU!

“A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip.” ~ Unknown

Taylor turned 18 on November 2. It was the day we left on our annual fall camping trip. Life happened and I haven’t been able to do a post just for her. This is your post, Taylor…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I decided what I wanted to do for you was to gather a few pictures together for all the world to see. What I really wanted them to see was a shortened version of the kid you were and the young woman you have become. I hope I have adequately done this.
