When we first came to this part of Montana 32 years ago, the residents of this state hadn’t been here all that long. The community of Jordan dates back to 1896. In 1919, the county of Garfield County was established and Jordan became the county seat. Jordan was incorporated in 1951. As you can see, Jordan’s history is relatively young.
Anyways, when we first started coming in 1981, there were still visible pieces of history scattered all over the countryside in the means of log homes and homesteads, old rusted machinery and vehicles. A couple of the homes still had furniture inside and looked like the residents had left for the day and never came back. That isn’t so anymore. The homesteads are falling down ever so gracefully and the pieces of machinery continue to grow into the prairie. A couple of previous postings from last summer will give you some different stories to read and pictures to look at – “Going Round & Round Once Again” and “Notable Characters of J Town”.
Here’s a few more pictures of Montana yesteryear.
Beautiful photos!
Thank you!!
I went to your site. I see you’re in Montana – on the west end. Too bad you can’t come to Eastern Montana and see its beauty, too! Enjoy your trip to the mountains – I’m jealous.
Thanks! I haven’t been to Eastern Montana in a long time. Maybe I will have to add it to my next trip! I was in Havre for the weekend and its off to Glacier tomorrow for a few days.
Ah…Glacier! One of my favorite places to be. Safe travels and have a great time! Loved your pictures of the branding, by the way!
Thanks!
Thank you for your writings. The history of the praries is so interesting. Keep up your hard work and enjoy seeing your grandson and family upon returning home. Over and out from Wagga Wagga Australia
Leonie,
Thank you for leaving a note. I will most definitely enjoy seeing my little guy and the rest of the family! I’m so glad you have enjoyed following our journey this summer. Once I get home, I will continue to blog but it won’t be nearly as exciting as the wheat harvest is. Australia…one place I would dearly love to visit some day!
I am a grain broker working with farmers to obtain the best price for their commodities at the time they wish to sell. I have plenty of grower contacts for yourselves if u wish to work over harvest here in Aus anytime soon. Over and out,
Probably won’t happen any time soon, Leonie, but maybe come for a visit SOMEDAY! Maybe, in the meantime, you can send me some pictures of what it’s like over there.
Chow!
