When we first came to this part of Montana 32 years ago, the residents of this state hadn’t been here all that long. The community of Jordan dates back to 1896. In 1919, the county of Garfield County was established and Jordan became the county seat. Jordan was incorporated in 1951. As you can see, Jordan’s history is relatively young.
Anyways, when we first started coming in 1981, there were still visible pieces of history scattered all over the countryside in the means of log homes and homesteads, old rusted machinery and vehicles. A couple of the homes still had furniture inside and looked like the residents had left for the day and never came back. That isn’t so anymore. The homesteads are falling down ever so gracefully and the pieces of machinery continue to grow into the prairie. A couple of previous postings from last summer will give you some different stories to read and pictures to look at – “Going Round & Round Once Again” and “Notable Characters of J Town”.
Here’s a few more pictures of Montana yesteryear.
